Hermann Krüger was born in Cottbus and began his artistic career in Munich as a private student of Adalbert Waagen. He did not attend an academy, but remained in the close teacher-private pupil relationship in the following years. After stays in Dresden and Berlin he was a private pupil of Albert Flamm and Oswald Achenbach. He settled in Düsseldorf and made several trips to Italy, among others also together with Oswald Achenbach, and Egypt, as the small picture of the pyramids of Giza proves. Apart from Nile landscapes, it was mainly views of northern Italy, Rome and its surroundings, Naples, Capri and Sorrento, which he furnished with warm colouring and light effects.
Krüger regularly exhibited his works at the academy exhibitions in Düsseldorf and Berlin. His works are in private collections as well as in public museums, such as in Düsseldorf, Dresden and Wiesbaden.
