The portrait of a young lady in front of a landscape is painted in the Düsseldorf Nazarene style. The young woman wears an old German dress with an elaborate updo and presents herself in profile. The conception is reminiscent of Raphael’s portraits from the Renaissance and can be found similarly received by Wilhelm Schadow. The conception, the colour rendering as well as the modelling correspond to those of his teacher Carl Sohn, who was famous for the special colour treatment of his portraits of women.
