Siegward Sprotte was an important painter and draughtsman with a background in art philosophy. His work includes landscapes, marines, still lifes and portraits, which are characterised by a clear formal language and a special sensitivity for moods.
Sprotte received his artistic training from Emil Orlik in Berlin, a master of graphic art and illustration, who trained him in precise lines and finely tuned composition. He then became a master student of Karl Hagemeister in Werder/Havel, an important German impressionist whose naturalistic and atmospheric style of painting had a lasting influence on Sprotte’s artistic development.
After completing his training, Sprotte settled in Kampen on Sylt, where he became a central figure in the artistic life of the island.
Sprotte’s work has been recognised internationally and is now represented in major museums, including the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco, museums in Shanghai and Moscow as well as German collections in Stuttgart and Husum.
