About the watercolour cycle that Uecker created on a trip through Patagonia in 1996, he wrote in the same year: “The cycle is an intensification of the experiences that I associate with cold, heat, weather turbulence, being trapped in clouds and the visibility of just two metres, the sudden illumination that reveals an expanse stretching over hundreds of kilometres, and the optical confusion that results from the fact that the mountains and their peaks first appear so close and then so far away again.”
