Education

His artistic training began in Wismar and at the art academy in Berlin-Weißensee. In 1955 he went to Düsseldorf to study with Otto Pankok. His typical relief-like nail pictures were created during his time in Düsseldorf, which he later combined with everyday objects.

ZERO

In 1961 Uecker became a member of the artist group ZERO founded by Heinz Mack and Otto Piene, whereupon he also turned to kinetic light art. Günther Uecker’s oeuvre encompasses interdisciplinary painting, object art, installations, but also stage sets and films. In 1970 he was German representative at the Venice Biennale together with Thomas Lenk, Heinz Mack and Georg Karl Pfahler.
