Already during his time in Dresden and Berlin, Kirchner placed the human physiognomy, posture and diverse movement sequences at the centre of his work. With a precise eye, he captured the anatomy and fleeting or complex movements of his models in a few dynamic strokes on paper, canvas and printing blocks. Throughout his life, Kirchner was accompanied by a deep fascination for dance, but he also depicted other sporting activities with great interest in movement and the human body.
