Sean Scully, an Irish-born contemporary painter, is known for his abstract works with geometric shapes and bold colours. Born in Dublin in 1945, he moved to London in 1949, where he discovered his artistic passion and studied at Croydon College of Art from 1965. After discovering abstract expressionism, he switched from figurative painting to abstract works. In 1975, he moved to the USA on a scholarship, where he developed new painting techniques. Scully achieved an international breakthrough in the 1980s and is regarded as a leading representative of abstract art.
