The sheet “Bauhaus. Dessau” was created during the preliminary course “Formenlehre” (Theory of Forms) with Wassily Kandinsky in 1927. While his departure for Russia was previously always located in the early 1920s, this sheet proves that Zierath was still at the Bauhaus at least until 1927. The collage shows a photograph of the Bauhaus building in Dessau, behind which Wasssily Kandinsky’s giant head rises. Zierath fills the length of the sheet with isolated yellow, grey and black Constructivist elements. Above the Bauhaus, an aeroplane flies towards Berlin and a hand hovers in space. At the bottom edge, the paper of a Massary private cigarette is set in conjunction with the Bauhaus stamp on the Abstract Theory of Forms. The whole collage is like a small summary of his Bauhaus time and gives us a rare insight into Zierath’s life today.
