The watercolour “The Seine at Fontainebleau” shows the lock at the village of Samois. Samois is located south of Paris and was a popular place of residence for artists such as the writer Victor Hugo. Blue and green-yellow strokes dominate the page, which tells of a summer day. The trees are in full splendor and the small village of Samois towers above the scenery.
