Using mixed media, he also made the work Bauernkate, which shows the dark outlines of a large farmhouse behind several fir trees. Green and blue landscape elements stand in contrast to the yellow sky flooded with sunlight. In typical fashion, Schmidt-Rottluff outlines the outlines with strong brushstrokes. It becomes clear that Schmidt-Rottluff’s work was more about the effects of color and shape than about the depiction itself.
