At the beginning of 1924, Walter Ophey was travelling alone on a study trip in Tuscany. He complains, however: “For the rest, I feel very alone and am somewhat exhausted by the night’s dream orgies. A husband is not allowed to go travelling alone either.” In autumn of the same year, he travels to Italy again, this time with his wife. They visit Florence, San Gimignano, Siena and finally Rome, near which lies Assisi.
