Gabriele Münter – one of the most important painters of Classical Modernism in Germany, alongside Paula Modesohn-Becker and Käthe Klowitz. As a founding member of the “Blaue Reiter” and a student of Wassily Kandinsky, she made a significant contribution to the development of expressive painting by increasingly simplifying forms and using colour as an essential vehicle for expression and mood in the picture.
