Rural life takes place in Mühlig’s picture spaces so naturally and unaffected that his art can be described as the high point of naturalistic landscape painting. The unity of man, animal and nature in painting has hardly been portrayed as convincingly anywhere else as in Hugo Mühlig’s pictures.
