In almost all of Hugo Mühlig’s landscapes, we find the representation of the simple life of the rural population, also in “Potato harvest on the Lower Rhine”. It is mainly the women who pull the potatoes from the harvest in autumn and collect them in sacks. A white horse with a green wagon is ready to carry the harvest away, while a man tries to set up a fire so something can be cooked.
