“Blooming garden” is a section of the garden that was probably made for study purposes. Hugo Mühlig’s brushwork and the composition of the colors can be seen very nicely here. Various flowers and blossoms from bushes next to a recognisable house in the background adorn the view.
At the Düsseldorf Academy, Hugo Mühlig succeeded in overcoming the meticulous small-scale conception of figures that he had been taught during his studies in Dresden. His paintings, but also his studies and sketches, which he made on the numerous trips to the Lower Rhine, the North Sea and the Baltic Sea, are made “according to nature” and show the examination of the weather, the seasons and above all the endeavor to capture atmosphere and moods in his paintings.
