“Blooming garden” is a section of the garden that was probably made for study purposes. Hugo Mühlig’s brushwork and the composition of the colors can be seen very nicely here. Various flowers and blossoms of bushes next to a house recognizable in the background adorn the view.
At the Düsseldorf Academy, Hugo Mühlig succeeded in overcoming the meticulous detail of the figure concept that had been taught to him during his studies in Dresden. His paintings, but also his studies and sketches, which he made on the numerous trips to the Lower Rhine, the North Sea and the Baltic Sea, are made “according to nature” and show the examination of the weather, the seasons and above all the endeavor to capture atmosphere and moods in his paintings.
