The work “Still water in Jägersborg forest” describes Mönsted’s artistic ability in an impressive way. The view sweeps over a calm river, the banks of which are flanked by large deciduous trees. These are perfectly reflected on the dark surface of the water. Behind the trees you can see meadows that are bordered by a forest and where red deer can be seen grazing. The scene takes place in Jægersborg Zoo, which is north of Copenhagen. The Danish King Frederik III. 1669 had a piece of forest fenced in to breed game here. The park was opened to the public at the end of the 18th century and is still the most popular nature park in Denmark today.
