During the Sonderbund period between 1908-12, Max Clarenbach turned away from his well-known winter pictures at times and experimented with other seasons. Under the influence of French Impressionism, he looked for motifs that could broaden his palette. In addition to his own flower garden, he also discovers rich green tones for his summer pictures in public parks such as the “Palm garden”.
