Maurice Brianchon

Short information about the artist

Maurice Brianchon was together with Jules Cavaillès a representative of the “Realité Poétique”. He is one of the major French artists at the beginning of the 20th century. He studied at the “Ecole des Beaux-Arts” in Bordeaux. In 1917 Brianchon moved to Paris, where he continued his studies at the “Ecole des Beaux Arts Décoratifs”. In his works, the artist was influenced by Édouard Vuillard and Pierre Bonnard. Since 1920 Brianchon exhibited his works at various exhibitions. In 1934 he exhibited at the Biennale in Venice, where his works were alongside those of Édouard Manet. In 1957 he was shown at the group exhibition “Realité Poétique”. Two years later, he visited several exhibitions, which dealt with the topic of “realized colours” in New York. In 1968 he traveled to Trufflières and Périgord to go on vacation. There he painted many landscapes and still life away from the riots in May that occured in Paris. The following year Brianchon had his first exhibition in Tokyo.
