Fascinated by abstract art, the American artist Alexander Calder became a member of the French artist group “Abstraction-Création” in 1932. Strong colors, which are mainly limited to the basic colors blue, red and yellow, as well as simple, carefree forms characterize Calder’s work, which connects him with his long-time artist friend Joan Miró. The influence that the artists had on one another is particularly evident in Sterne. Undefined forms that seem to float freely in space reveal a fantastic imagery that is strongly reminiscent of the paintings of his Spanish friend. Both artists wanted to make the elements of movement and space recognizable in their art, for which the artists each found very personal solutions. This is No. XVI / XXV of the E.A. edition for the artist.
