Short information about the artist

Raimund Girke at the Werkkunstschule in Hanover until 1952 and then with Georg Meistermann at the Düsseldorf Art Academy until 1956, where he painted his first non-representational picture in 1954. From 1966 to 1971 he worked as a lecturer at the Werkkunstschule in Hanover before becoming a professor at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin from 1971. In 1977 he took part in the documenta VI in Kassel and moved into a studio in Cologne in the early 1980s. In the 1990s and early 2000s he showed several retrospectives in Hanover, Wuppertal, Saarbrücken, Nuremberg, Cottbus and Heidenheim.
