Gaston Balande was a French artist and curator who spent much of his life in various cities in France. He was a student of Fernand Cormon and Rupert Bunny and worked in a variety of styles, including a “dark” phase in which he depicted political and social themes in sombre colours, and a later phase in the Post-Impressionist style. An exhibition of his work before the Second World War was presented in La Rochelle in 2004.
